RtI Services
Pickerington Local Schools has implemented a Response to Intervention (RTI) model for articulation and language services. Using the RTI model, SLPs may provide articulation services to students in general education who meet the following criteria:
As the RTI model of articulation/language therapy is a regular education service, no formal assessments are required. An informal screening is completed by the school SLP based on teacher or parent request, and a judgment is made as to whether or not the child’s speech requires intervention. Parents are contacted if their child is eligible to participate in this model. Students participate in the RTI model of articulation therapy for 8-10 week periods. At the end of these periods, parents are contacted regarding their child’s progress. Children may no longer require intervention, may be progressing appropriately and require an additional 8-10 week session, or may need a formal evaluation and more intense support.
- demonstrate intelligible speech even though errors are noticeable
- speech errors do not affect academic status
- speech errors respond to correction with minimal prompts
